PRS Neal Schon Signature Models

PRS Guitars Introduces Neal Schon Signature Models

Neal Schon of Journey is joining the PRS family of artists with two distinct signature models: the NS-14 and NS-15. Neal was intimately involved in the design of nearly every aspect of these instruments…from the stylized f-holes to the hardware details.

The NS-14 is a completely new PRS design incorporating a 14” semi-hollow singlecut body with a new neck joint designed to allow greater access to the higher frets. The NS-15 is a thinline hollowbody based on the Neal Schon limited edition Private Stock guitar offered in early 2012. A portion of Neal’s signature tone comes from his long-standing use of Floyd Rose tremolo systems. The NS-14 and NS-15 add a Floyd Rose to the PRS Core line for the first time.

“The new NS-14 and NS-15 PRS guitars are on the cutting edge of now. I love everything about them. I had the pleasure in helping in the creation of these beauties and I love the weight, sound, and ultimate playability. These are among the best guitars I've ever played. Paul's Guitar

Designed and Played by Paul Reed Smith

For 2013, PRS Guitars is introducing “Paul’s Guitar” and “Paul’s Amp”– both designed to Paul Reed Smith’s exacting specifications and built to match his own gear. Paul Reed Smith has the unique position in the music industry of being a skilled guitarist in addition to founding a major guitar manufacturing business. His name is on the headstock, and he can play. The company has a foundation that was laid from Paul’s experience as a skilled guitar maker and musician and continues to grow based upon his experiences in the studio and on the stage.

“These guitars have a highly musical tone and beautiful new look that I love,” said Paul Reed Smith. Carrying on the Modern Eagle tradition, Paul’s Guitar is a production version of the Private Stock guitar Paul Reed Smith has been playing in his studio and on the stage. With exclusive “brushstroke” bird inlays and two narrow 408 pickups, this guitar is not only unique….its every appointment has been specified by Paul Reed Smith from the wood selection, inlay design, pickups, neck shape, a new proprietary finish, and newly designed stoptail bridge. “We’ve been experimenting with a new stoptail bridge with brass inserts that will first be seen on this model. The bridge is still our aluminum straight bridge, but the point at which the string starts vibrating, it’s brass to promote the musical high-end of the guitar,” said Paul.

SE Custom 24 7-String

Added low 'B' string gives tonal versatility

The SE Custom 24 7-String, PRS Guitars first 7-string production instrument, takes familiar PRS aesthetics and playability to new sonic territory. Using the Custom 24 as a platform, this guitar adds a low-B string to offer increased versatility to the player who wants more tonal range. Whether you’re playing rock, jazz, or metal, this guitar provides extended low-end growl, increased chordal variance, and a greater ability to embellish standard chords.

The SE 7-String features a beveled maple top with flame maple veneer and mahogany back, a 24-fret, 25” scale length maple neck with rosewood fretboard and bird inlays. The electronics package pairs SE HFS and SE Vintage Bass pickups with a volume, push/pull tone, and 3-way blade switch. The SE HFS and SE Vintage pickups were designed to mirror the Maryland-made pickups of the same name (used on the Custom since 1991). Originally meaning Hot, Fat, and Screams, the HFS was the evolution of the original Standard treble pickup. The HFS is a powerful pickup with a balance of aggression, clear highs, strong mid-range, and strong bass. Likewise, the Vintage bass is the evolution of the original Standard bass pickup and has a warm high-mid sound that is excellent for many musical styles.

Specs: Beveled maple top with flame maple veneer and mahogany back, 25” scale length, 24-fret maple neck with rosewood fretboard, bird inlays, PRS-designed tuners, plate-style, string-thru-body bridge
Electronics: SE HFS treble and SE Vintage bass pickups, volume and push/pull tone control with 3-way blade pickup switch
Neck Profile: Wide Thin 7-String
Finishes: Royal Blue and Vintage Sunburst

408 Std & 408 MT

Pickup configuration comprised of four coils and offering eight sounds

PRS is proud to offer a new voice with the 408 Maple Top and 408 Standard. These inspiring new instruments, offered as both a maple top (MT) and all mahogany (Standard) version, bring the versatility and voicing of the Private Stock Signature and the Signature Limited Edition to PRS’s Core line.

PRS 408 pickups were designed to extend the guitar’s tonal spectrum by narrowing the field of the bass pickup to increase its focus and widening the field of the treble pickup to increase its sound field (hence their asymmetric appearance). This pickup configuration (comprised of four coils and offering eight sounds) stems back to Paul’s experimentation on the Sorcerer’s Apprentice guitars in the early 1980’s. Thanks to the simple but versatile switching system featuring mini-toggle switches that provide numerous combinations of humbucking and singlecoil tones, the 408 Maple Top and Standard provide stunning articulation and musical clarity.

Specs: The 408 is available with either a solid mahogany body (408 Standard) or a mahogany body with a maple top (408 MT), 25” scale length, 22-fret mahogany neck (rosewood neck option) with rosewood fretboard, bird inlays, PRS Phase III tuners, PRS Tremolo (stoptail option), nickel hardware with gold or hybrid option
Electronics: 408 treble and bass pickups, volume and tone control with 3-way blade pickup switch with 2 mini-toggles
Neck Profile: Pattern or Pattern Thin
408 Std Finishes: Antique White*, Black*, Charcoal, Faded Cherry, Frost Blue Metallic*, McCarty Tobacco Sunburst, Natural, Powder Blue*, Seafoam Green*
408 MT Finishes: Amber Black, Armando’s Amethyst, Black*, Black Gold Burst, Blue Crab Blue, Gold Burst, Charcoal Burst, Eriza Verde, Faded Blue Burst, Faded Gray Black, Fire Red Burst, Gold Top*, McCarty Sunburst, McCarty Tobacco Sunburst, Purple Hazel, Santana Yellow, Scarlet Smokeburst, Solana Burst, Teal Black, Trampas Green, Whale Blue

P22

Piezo-equipped solidbody guitar

Paul Reed Smith Guitars is proud to add the P22, the company’s first piezo-equipped solidbody guitar, to its 2012 lineup. The P22 comes standard with a figured maple top, mahogany back, mahogany neck with a 22 fret rosewood fingerboard, and a redesigned PRS/LR Baggs piezo system. PRS and LR Baggs partnered more than a decade ago to design the piezo system found in PRS’s popular hollowbody models. This new system retains the same circuit design as the existing system, giving the P22 the same tonal authenticity and real world practicality as PRS hollowbody guitars. The redesign of the board itself yielded a version that is more than 60% smaller than the original PRS/LR Baggs system, allowing it to comfortably inhabit a solidbody guitar. Uncovered 53/10 pickups round out this guitar’s specifications and help define the P22’s voice.

Piezo systems have long allowed guitarists the versatility of wielding both acoustic and electric guitar tones in one instrument. The P22 is a new and unique tool for musicians seeking that versatility.

Specs: Carved, figured (flame or quilt, 10 Top option) maple top with mahogany back, 25” scale length, 22 fret mahogany neck (rosewood neck option) with rosewood fretboard, bird inlays, PRS Phase III tuners, PRS piezo adjustable stoptail bridge, nickel hardware (gold or hybrid option)
Electronics: Carved, figured (flame or quilt, 10 Top option) maple top with mahogany back, 25” scale length, 22 fret mahogany neck (rosewood neck option) with rosewood fretboard, bird inlays, PRS Phase III tuners, PRS piezo adjustable stoptail bridge, nickel hardware (gold or hybrid option)
Neck Profile: Pattern Regular
